Citizenship - Conscientization

Citizenship competencies represent the skills and knowledge necessary to build coexistence, democratic participation and pluralism. This definition provided by the Ministry of education in Colombia help us to see the complexity of the concept but at the same time it let me recognize that if the goal of education is contribute to create a more democratic society, everybody will need to develop the necessary abilities and understanding to build a better society. So I, as teacher have to contribute from my profession.

Conscientization is a critical stage that helps individuals see themselves as active actors who can change their world. (Freire, 1970). this definition implies  ideas such as reality, participation, reflection, and action. This space draws attention on them to help visitors be awared to see themselves  not as recipients, but as knowing subjects, achieve a deepening awareness both of the sociocultural reality that shapes their lives and of their capacity to transform that reality”.
